From a request by the Minister MINSAP to MINEM, to find a solution to this problem through the use of Cuban minerals, this research was carried out to replace abrasives import garnetconcentrates, obtained from the garnet skarn associated with magnetite deposits in the region "Iron Santiago". They are obtained by a simple method of low intensity magnetic separation, garnet abrasive high grade (> 90%) in the particle size fractions of interest. Use tests conducted by the Stomatology Direction of Public Health Ministry, they gave positive results. A technological flow is proposed in the center with existing equipment and is recommended to perform an economic evaluation; to replace the import executed micro productions by the CIPIMM. Los abrasivos que se emplean en el pulido de las partes metálicas de las prótesis dentales, que se producen para la población por el Ministerio de Salud Pública (MINSAP), están constituidos por materiales sintéticos de granulometrías de - 0.3 + 0.2 mm, caros (a un precio de aproximadamente 277 USD/kg) y de difícil adquisición, lo que perjudica la prestación de este importante servicio. A partir de una solicitud del (MINSAP) al Ministerio de Energía y Minas (MINEM), para buscar una solución a este problema mediante el empleo de minerales cubanos, se ejecutó esta investigación para sustituir los abrasivos de importación por concentrados de granate, obtenidos de los Skarn granatíferos asociados a los yacimientos de magnetita de la región “Hierro Santiago”. Se obtienen por un sencillo método de separación magnética de baja intensidad, abrasivos de granate de alta ley (> 90 %) en las fracciones granulométricas de interés. Las pruebas de uso realizadas por la Dirección de Estomatología del MINSAP, dieron resultados positivos. Se propone un flujo tecnológico con equipos existentes en el centro y se recomienda ejecutar una evaluación económica, para sustituir esta importación por microproducciones ejecutadas por el Centro de Investigaciones para la Industria Minero Metalúrgica.
