POTENTIAL FOR REFRACTORY MATERIALS IN THE PROVINCE OF CAMAGUEY POTENCIAL PARA MATERIALES REFRACTARIOS EN LA PROVINCIA DE CAMAGUEY Estenoz Sánchez, Ibel Rafael Refractory magnesite Camagüey Refractarios magnesitas Camagüey The study of refractory raw materials is very important in our territory as their use in the industry is broad and in most cases it is necessary to import them. In our paper, some of the deposits of refractory materials known in the province of Camaguey, among them the magnesite Redencion as well as several cromite deposits distributed within the rocks of the complex Camagüey ofiolitico and others are identified and characterized, whose use would save significant amounts of foreign exchange for the importation of such materials. The presence of these deposits gives a high potential to our territory to become a major supplier of refractory materials for the domestic industry, thus contributing to the national program of substitution of imports.Environmental aspects related to the exportation and use of these materials are also taken into account, due to its possible influence in their technical and economic evaluation. El estudio de las materias primas refractarias reviste una gran importancia en nuestro territorio pues su utilización en la industria es amplia y en la mayoría de los casos es necesario importarlas. En nuestro trabajo se identifican y caracterizan algunos de los yacimientos de materiales refractarios conocidos en la provincia de Camagüey, entre ellos el de magnesitas Redención, único de su tipo en el país, así como varios yacimientos de cromitas distribuidos dentro de las rocas del complejo ofiolítico camagüeyano y otros, cuyo aprovechamiento permitiría ahorrar significativas cantidades de divisas por la importación de dichos materiales. La presencia de estos yacimientos le imprime un alto potencial a nuestro territorio para convertirse en un suministrador importante de materiales refractarios para la industria nacional, contribuyendo así al programa nacional de sustitución de importaciones. En el trabajo también se tienen en cuenta los aspectos medio ambientales relacionados con la explotación y el uso de esas materias primas y su posible incidencia en su valoración técnico-económica.
