POLLUTION ASSESSMENT OF FLARE EMISSIONS AT CUBAN OIL FIELDS
Main Article Content
Abstract
Emissions of sulfur dioxide (SO2) and hydrogen sulfide (H2S) into the atmosphere are among the most serious problems that contribute to the deterioration of weather conditions, resulting from the burning of accompanying gas in inadequate facilities that occurs during the oil extraction due to the insufficient use of this gas. This article deals with the determination of the efficiency of combustion from the equations; developed by Leahy and Schroeder, of flares installed on the deposits of the northern coast of Mayabeque and Matanzas provinces which reach lower efficiencies than 40%, which it denotes a poor combustion that can cause high levels of H2S in the region where they are located. The estimate of levels of H2S and SO2 surrounding the evaluated flares was obtained by applying three recognized dispersion models of areas.
