Abstract

Two Internal Reference Materials (MRI) of polymetallic sulphides were developed for use in lab quality control requiring this material. The homogeneity was evaluated for silver, cadmium and copper by performing AAS measurement. A simple classification ANOVA and a fit criterion were used for the data, a mathematical correction was made for the measurements with insufficient repeatability, finally homogeneity for both MIR was verified. The stability study was performed by the classical method during storage for three years under controlled conditions of relative humidity and temperature, the experiment was performed with silver, cadmium and copper determinations using linear regression and an alternative with ANOVA, resulting not significant degradation of the material. At a temperature of 25 ° C and relative humidity not greater than 50%, the degradation of the material was not significant. The characterization was performed for silver, cadmium, copper, zinc lead, iron, and sulfur and barium sulphate, assigning the valuesas the arithmetic mean of their mass fractions, in addition to LACEMI, two ALS Geochemistry laboratories participated in Vancouver, Canada and the other in Australia; the most used methods were ICP-OES, FRX, AAS and Gravimetry. MRIs provide an economical means of controlling routine measurements, validation of methods with limited extension, preparation of control charts, development of methods for establishing consistency, equipment performance check and repeatability and reproducibility studies.
