Optimization of the procedure of determination of rare earth elements (REE) in chromium minerals
Main Article Content
Abstract
The objective of the work is the optimization of the primary procedure developed by CIPIMM for the determination of rare earth elements (REE) in chromium minerals, whose presence has been previously reported from results obtained abroad. For the determination of the REE classical chromatographic methods of separation and concentration were employed for which the resin DOWEX 50W-X8 (100-200 mesh) was selected, after dissolving the sample with HCl, HF, HNO3 and HClO4 and the incorporation of the molten residue and final determination by ICP-OES. A synthetic sample was used for all tests because there were no chromium reference samples with certified REE values. The chromatographic concentration separation conditions were optimized by means of an experimental design of type 23, studying the most significant variables, which were: volume of eluent in mL (100 and 200), concentration of HNO3 in Moles (5 and 10) and speed of flow in mL / min (2 and 4), selecting as optimal conditions for these variables the values: 200mL, 5M and 2 mL / min, respectively, with which recoveries between 95 and 105 were obtained for all the elements and also the best middle value. These results allowed the procedure to be incorporated into the laboratory's Quality System
