Zeolite as a soil and crop improver
Main Article Content
Abstract
The application of natural zeolite in agricultura is a practice that has gained popularity in the last twenty years, which is why it is necessary tocarry out continuous studies as a soil amendment mineral. This work aimed to determine the most effective dose of natural zeolite as soil amendments in tobacco, sugar cane, tomato, corn and rice crops and its impacto on the chemical properties of the soils. During the years 2018-2019, field experiments were conducted in different soil sunder a random block statistical design, with 4 treatments (0,0.5, 1.0 and 1.5 t.ha-1of natural zeolite) and repetitions. The zeolite used was from the Tasajera deposit in Cuba and the soils studied were Alitic, Grayish Brown, Brown with carbonates and Sialitic Humic as they are the most representative with an agricultural vocation. The best variant corresponded to the dose of 1.0 t.ha-1, of zeolite applied locally in the different crops. The use of this dose also managed to increase the content of exchangeable bases, the concentration of nutrients in the soils and the yields agricultural crops.
