ENVIRONMENTAL MINERALOGY AND GEOCHEMISTRY OF ACID DRAINAGE PROCESS IN MANGROVES OF MINING LIABILITIES SULFOMETALES
Main Article Content
Abstract
The final results of an investigation that during the period (2009-2010), was implemented in three miners CIPIMM liabilities (PAM) in the northwestern region of Cuba are exposed, thus making the mineralogical characterization with an environmental focus and includes, sulfometales former industrial complex. In waste generated in said PAM and, processes intense acid mine drainage (AMD) that occur in: (1) ash pyrite roasting; (2) oxisales near the batteries; (3) mangrove sediments; , Which continuously leach (4) seawater input channel to PAM, geochemistry association between the phases identified with potentially toxic elements (Fe, Zn, and Pb S EFA) was determined exposed on the coastal environment in piles of ash roasting and on that ground surface pollutant loads in mangrove soils, sediments and waters, which accumulate in areas of the former mining and manufacturing plant are increased. Substantial compositional results show that in the run-off oxisales different shades observed in the areas and the containment barrier of MAP is present oxisales (colored) transition metal typical in this case iron (Fe II) stable in acid medium such as: Rozenite (FeSO4.4H2O) zsomolnokita (FeSO4.H2O) and bianchita (Zn, Fe 2+) SO4.6H2O, which are important sources of contribution of three EPT: (Fe3 +, Zn2 + and SO42-) in mangrove sediments surrounding the PAM due to combined processes of leaching acid-precipitation-solar evaporation on the exposed to the coastal environment from the ashes of roasting surface, which in turn present in composition substantial mineral phases such as maghemite; γ-Fe2O3 (major phase), pyrite (FeS2, residual industrial process), hematite (α-Fe2O3), plumbojarosite (PbFe6 (SO4) 4 (OH) 12) and elemental octazufre (S8), and other minerals of interest.
