Use of cuban chromite in the bottom outlets of the casting ladles

Abstract
One of the factors with greater influence in the costs of the steel of the Antillana de Acero Steel plant is the high prices of imported materials. Therefore, it is necessary to work on replacing some imported materials. The objective of this work is to determine the capacity of the Cuban Chromite from the Mamina mine in Camaguey, in its virgin state, to cover the bottom outlet of the casting ladles of the electric steelwork in Antillana de Acero. The bottom outlet of seven ladles are covered whith the material that is being tested to perform 63 steel castings. The termal resistance of the Cuban Chromite can be seen in the test carried out. Based on these results it can be concluded that the Cuban Chromite may be used to cover the bottom outlets of the ladles which can lower the cost of the steel considerably.
