Laboratory-scale evaluation for the direct obtaining of high % solids slurries from a lateritic ore sample from the Camarioca Norte deposit
Main Article Content
Abstract
This work aims to evaluate, on a laboratory scale, the production of slurries using the conventional technology employed at Moa Nickel S.A. and by applying the direct slurry preparation technology developed by CIPIMM. The research was carried out using a mineral sample from the Camarioca Norte deposit sent by the company. Laboratory tests of conventional sedimentation of the Camarioca Norte mineral slurry reported, as expected, 38-40% solids, similar to the results obtained in previous studies. These minerals, like those from the Camarioca Sur deposit, are characterized, according to previous research, by low compaction during the sedimentation process, which makes it difficult to obtain slurries with high solid content. Additionally, the slurries obtained have a high viscosity, which makes pumping them to the leaching plant difficult in the industry. Laboratory-scale trials were able to produce pulps with 44–48% solids, a typical viscosity of 60–180 Pa·s, and a high limonite recovery, for which different additives were used.
